Trump Orders Airstrikes in Syria After Chemical Attack

The United States launched missiles at a Syrian airfield early Friday, April 14, 2017, in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians–one of the deadliest of its kind since the Syrian war began six years ago. It killed at least 70 people, including children. This was the first direct assault on the Damascus government since the beginning of that country’s bloody civil war in 2011, according to CNN.

Trump said the Syrian base was used as the staging point for Tuesday’s chemical weapons attack on rebel-held territory, “It was a slow and brutal death for so many,” Trump said. “Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack.”

While there can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the chemical weapons convention and ignored the urging of the UN Security Council, prayers for those involved in both attacks are certainly necessary.
