Oscars Review 2017

2016 was filled with outstanding films, that nobody could wait for the anticipation of this years’ 89th Academy Awards, known as the Oscars. We  were delivered such great pieces of art such as Moonlight, Fences, La La Land, and Moana. The amount of energy that was filled in the Dolby Theater on February 26th was very pleasing, especially with Justin Timberlake performing his hit song, “Can’t Stop The Feeling” to start the show. Stars such as Emma Stone, Viloa Davis, Chris Evens, John Legend, Ryan Gosling, and many others attended the event.

Although many rumors went around predicting that La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling would take home the award for Best Picture, they were right…for literally only a couple of minutes. When announcing the winner for Best Picture, the presenter, Warren Beaty was handed the wrong envelope. He was handed the envelope for “Actress In A Leading Role”, so when the card said “Emma Stone”, he assumed it meant La La Land. However, after a few acceptance speeches from the cast of La La Land, officials ran out to the stage to inform them that they had not won the award but the movie “Moonlight” had. Many were shocked as they watched live and those at the venue were as well. Moonlight winners did go up and accept their award and were very surprised. Emma Stone later stated that they had made history because of the misunderstanding.

Here is Jordan Horowitz, producer of La La Land, showing the correct envelope to show Moonlight as the true winner for the award.

Other actors and actresses also won big that night. Viola Davis won her well-deserved award for Actress In A Supporting Role for Fences. Zootopia won for Best Animated Film. The Jungle Book also won for Best Visual Effects.

This years Oscars were very memorable. Let’s hope that next years’ award show is as exciting as this one.
